Randy Reardon (Board Chairperson) ”When I was asked by Whitey Klohs to help with this project, I was honored because this is project that was something that affected not only him but a lot of other people in the surrounding area.  Whitey thought enough of me that he thought I could do some good for the project and the people who needed it.  Helping people and making someone's life a little better is a great feeling and I think that is what life is all about."  (712) 546-5531

Steve Ohm (Vice-Chairperson) This project is important to me because although it does not effect a great number of individuals it effects a lot of different people who are family and friends of these patients.  It is also going to be one more drawing card for the community of LeMars in a very positive way."  (712) 546-5117

Kirk Klohs (Treasurer) “My father was a dialysis patient for a year and a half, having treatments 3 times a week for 4 – 41/2 hours at a time.  He was traveling to SC during summer and winter, fighting elements, including snow and ice.  I would listen to him and mom talk about what a struggle it was, driving to Sioux City, fighting traffic, finding a place to park, and getting in to the facility.  It finally occurred to me that the town the size of Le Mars, with the healthcare we have available right now; there was no reason we could not have a dialysis facility here in town.  My dad went to the hospital administrator to find out what steps needed to be taken, began working on ideas, where money could come from and did a lot of ground work.  Before he passed on, I promised him I would keep working on this until we got it accomplished.  And that’s now my mission.

I guess you don’t realize how important something like this is until you have a family member going through dialysis.  The time, commitment, and emotional suffering a family goes through are overwhelming.  Not to mention the financial strain on the family.  And now, with the high price of fuel, it’s even more expensive for people to be traveling out of town for treatments.  Having been involved with a father on dialysis, there is definitely a need for this.  There are enough patients in the Le Mars area to make a unit successful and keep it busy.

We’re well on our way to getting this project off the ground.  And now, with this gift from Wells' for our headquarters, we’re more than off and running.  What a shot in the arm this is.  Everyone involved with the dialysis fundraiser really appreciate it.”  (712) 546-9550

Karen Dreckman (Secretary) ”Having a daughter with diabetes since the age of 12 months has opened my eyes to many of the problems associated with the disease.  I have always known that dialysis was a possibility for her future and knowing that this project is so needed for the LeMars area, has inspired me to have a hand in making it come true.  Thanks to the perseverance of Whitey Klohs and others, that dream will become a reality.  With the support of LeMars and the surrounding areas, the new center will make dialysis much less burdensome for them and their families."  (712) 546-4569

James George (Director) "I was asked to join the dialysis board by the late Whitey Klohs, who was determined to establish a dialysis center in Le Mars.  Whitey's inspiration and the realization that this was a definite community need was why I told Whitey I would do it."  (712) 546-4704

Mike Donlin (President) "Since arriving in Le Mars 10 years ago, I have been working to improve health care services for our area.  Besides working at Floyd Valley Hospital, I chair the Board of Directors at Plains Area Mental Health Center and am a member of the LADS Board.  The challenge of establishing a new service, especially one that is very complex like dialysis, is unique.  I am please to be able to work with a fine collection of community minded people on this Board.”  (712) 546-3492
